Overview

SSOE works with leading high-tech and industrial companies on diverse global projects. We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Plumbing Engineer at the E2 level with 3-5 years of experience in plumbing system design and engineering.

The engineer will develop design calculations, layouts, schematics, schedules, specifications, BOQs, and construction documents while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams. Exposure to US projects, codes will be considered an added advantage.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities 

  • Design plumbing systems for industrial, manufacturing, commercial, residential, retail, laboratory, healthcare, institutional, data center, semiconductor, and similar building projects. 
  • Prepare concept, schematic, design development, and construction documentation, including plans, layouts, riser diagrams, schematics, details, technical specifications, BOQs, schedules, and drawings. 
  • Perform plumbing calculations for domestic water demand, sanitary waste and vent sizing, storm and roof drainage, fixture units, water pressure and flow, pump head, water heaters, hot-water recirculation, and related systems. 
  • Develop internal and external water supply, sewerage, stormwater, and drainage layouts, including underground utilities, tanks, pumps, and treatment-system interfaces as applicable. 
  • Interpret architectural and equipment drawings and coordinate plumbing layouts with architectural, structural, HVAC, electrical, fire protection, process, and other disciplines. 
  • Use Revit and AutoCAD to develop coordinated design documentation and support BIM/model coordination using Navisworks or similar tools. 
  • Prepare equipment and plumbing fixture schedules, pipe-sizing calculations, design criteria, and supporting engineering documentation. 
  • Review project requirements, applicable local codes, standards, client guidelines, design criteria, equipment selections, and project specifications. 
  • Identify design, constructability, coordination, and code-compliance issues and support resolution with the project team. 
  • Support shop drawing, submittal, RFI, and contractor-query reviews under the guidance of senior engineers or project leads, as required. 
  • Coordinate with clients and internal teams, communicate design status and technical issues, and deliver assigned work on schedule and within budget. 
  • Guide junior engineers/designers on assigned modelling, drafting, and calculation tasks when required. 
  • Support project teams through design and construction-documentation phases and take ownership of assigned plumbing design packages. 

 

Qualifications

  • Required Technical Skills 

    • Working knowledge of water supply, domestic cold and hot water, hot-water recirculation, sanitary drainage, Grease and acid waste & vent, storm drainage 
    • Ability to perform engineering calculations and select appropriate pipe sizes, pumps, water heaters, tanks, and related plumbing equipment. 
    • Understanding of underground sewerage and stormwater systems, internal and external drainage layouts, and coordination of STP/water-tank interfaces where applicable. 
    • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and equipment drawings. 
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD and working knowledge of Revit MEP. 
    • Familiarity with Navisworks or similar BIM coordination tools. 
    • Good understanding of design documentation, drawing standards, specifications, BOQs, schedules, and calculation sheets. 
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and standard engineering calculation methods. 
    • Ability to understand and apply the codes and standards applicable to the project location. 

    Preferred / Added Advantage 

    • Exposure to US-based projects and familiarity with IPC, UPC, ASPE, NFPA, and related US design practices. 
    • Understanding of specialty plumbing systems (RO/DI/UPW, etc.). 
    • Experience coordinating with US-based engineering consultants, architects, contractors, or clients. 
    • Exposure to fire protection systems, including sprinkler, hydrant, fire pump, fire-water tank, and hydraulic-calculation requirements. 
    • Experience with industrial, manufacturing, laboratory, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, data center, healthcare, or other technically complex facilities. 
    • Experience with BIM workflows and multidisciplinary model coordination. 

    Education and Experience 

    • Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. 
    • 3-5 years of relevant experience in plumbing system design and engineering for building or industrial projects. 

    Desired Competencies 

    • Strong engineering fundamentals, understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills. 
    • Ability to independently develop plumbing layouts, calculations, and assigned deliverables with appropriate review. 
    • Attention to detail and the ability to proactively identify design and coordination issues. 
    • Clear verbal and written communication and effective collaboration in multidisciplinary teams. 
    • Ability to manage multiple deliverables, priorities, and deadlines. 
    • Willingness to learn new technologies, project-specific codes, standards, and design practices. 
    • Ability to participate in occasional coordination across global time zones, based on project needs.
